Allowing their hearts to be opened for their adoptive parents "in" can be a very scary and painful process for adopted children. Letting Us Into Your Heart describes to children the process of Core Attachment Therapy© and is companion to Your Love is Hope. It is a playful process for the child to slowly experience the developmental sequence of attachment development. As this process is felt, the child experiences emotional safety and security possibly for the first time. The end result is a happy child.

Are you the one in your family who is especially sensitive to how other people feel? Do you find yourself taking on other people's problems, even when it's bad for you? Is it often hard for you to make choices because you worry about what others want? If this sounds like you, you may have been raised by emotionally immature parents. Your true self is so much more than your family role. Your past identity may have been formed in your relationship with your parents, but who you will become derives from your relationship to yourself. I hope you will find this website and my books helpful to you in learning about yourself and your family, so that you will be free to live your best possible life.
DBT is a compassionate and evidence-based treatment for those suffering from mental health issues related to emotional regulation. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a cognitive behavioral treatment that was originally developed to treat chronically suicidal individuals diagnosed with borderline personality disorder (BPD) and it is now recognized as the gold standard psychological treatment for this population. In addition, research has shown that it is effective in treating a wide range of other disorders such as substance dependence, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and eating disorders. At the Linehan Institute our mission is to advance leading edge behavioral technologies making compassionate and effective treatments available to all persons with complex and severe mental disorders.

At one of The TLC Foundation for Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors' events, I was lucky to be a part of a small group of skin-pickers who met daily with Charlie Mansueto, PhD, Suzanne Mouton-Odum, PhD, and Sherrie Vavrichek, LCSW. We reviewed the Comprehensive Model for Behavioral Management of BFRBs (ComB). As we discussed strategies for interrupting and preventing skin-picking behaviors, I made a list – of strategies I'm using, and strategies I could use. The COMB model has 5 categories (SCAMP), so my notes are divided into sections: -Sensory -Cognitive -Affective (emotions) -Motor -Place / environment

Some of the most challenging children to help are those who have been injured early in life in their first relationships through disrupted or injured attachment. Traditional child therapies often fail them, and their parents or caregivers often feel ineffective and hopeless in the face of their child’s needs. Foster and adopted children may lose their homes and families due to behavior associated with attachment injuries. The costs to the child, the family and the society related to untreated attachment injuries are high.Catherine Young brings over 25 years of experience working with children and families to a new, structured and easily applied attachment-based therapy model: Multi-Modal Attachment Therapy (M-MAT). With compassion and respect for children and families, M-MAT blends a number of modalities to create a powerful, cohesive, and comprehensive therapy that integrates both right and left brain interventions.M-MAT Multi-Modal Attachment Therapy: Healing Attachment Injuries in Children and Families provides a brief overview of attachment theory, a discussionof attachment injured children and diagnoses, including Reactive Attachment Disorder, but focuses primarily on the how-to of implementing this therapy model to provide healing to children and families, and efficacy to the therapists who work with them.
M-MAT.org provides Multi-Modal Attachment Therapy and parenting resources including books for children, books for professionals, videos, attachment based play therapy activities, and information on training and consultation.
